Recently, writing has been challenging. Especially here. I wrote a piece in August that WordPress tells me is being posted today. It’s October. What? I wondered why the stats were so low.
I joined a writing magazine to keep me inspired, and I’ve been working on a never-ending essay about family and food. So. If you get this piece on Dolly Parton and kindness almost two months later than when I wrote it — it’s because I’ve been in some kind of fog, and I apologize. I began this blog in 2011. And with publishing inconsistencies, I’ve kept it going. There are days when I want to shut it down. But then, I cannot let go of the many words that beg me to put them on paper. I grasp the color blue for sorrow or yellow for joy. And then there are days like today. When I have to keep putting black ink to the white page no matter the chaos and uncertainty that we all live with in the United States.
A dear relative died yesterday. She was 91 years old. I talked with her often. I will miss our conversations. We talked about real things like the state of democracy and family connections. Perhaps that’s why the color blue looms large for me today. Fly high, Cousin Ethel.
I won’t forget to post this little follow-up to August. Excuse the tardiness. I’ll get back to work.
